Elton at his peak of his career. Elton could get standing ovations before he even had done anything. And this is a very great show and quite famous too. It's from Edinburgh Playhouse, Edinburgh and was broadcasted on radio and is in very good quality. The show contains the song played solo and probably the only solo versions of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "The Bitch Is Back", and "Love Song". All songs are only played on the piano.

In the past, I have been criticized for uploading far too much 1980s material from Elton so now I'm going to shock the world by uploading something that isn't from that era and upload the oldest show to appear on my channel from Elton (at this point) and I'm excited to upload this particular show plus it is the first ever Elton solo show I've done! This is one of Elton's all time classic shows and one of my personal favourites! Edinburgh 1976! This is dedicated to jacks615 who requested I upload this and the show is a mostly complete radio broadcast (cuts throughout) with comments from the Scottish radio DJ's before Don't Go Breaking My Heart!

Now as you know from seeing my previous uploads, I love Elton's 1980s concerts and rarely look elsewhere for uploads as I prefer his more mature voice compared to his very high early voice. However, this show is special as it has an excellent atmosphere with Elton in a very relaxed mood considering he keeps saying how nervous he is throughout the show and being very talkative towards the audience! Also what possibly helps Elton is the fact that he is getting more and more drunk as the show progresses on tomato juice and vodka! Onto the set itself, it is an interesting setlist with performances of songs from the forthcoming album Blue Moves so we have the first performances of songs like Tonight and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word which would later become live staples at Elton John concerts round the world!

We have fantastic performances of Skyline Pigeon, I Need You To Turn To with some nice phrasing, Sixty Years On where he sounds clean on the final verse/chorus compared to later versions which surprisingly includes 1979, Daniel which sounds nice, Love Song which unlike US 1986 has lots of embellishments but is sadly incomplete, Candle In The Wind which is very smooth, Tonight which has an amusing intro speech and sounds fantastic! Bennie And The Jets with Elton realizing he's still on the air plus the crowd is amazing on this version, Rocket Man which has the phrasing on the Bb4's that I don't like, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me which sounds awesome, Better Off Dead where Elton flubs the words, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word which sounds as close to the record as you'll get with live performances, Someone Saved My Life Tonight which is possibly the best 1970's version of the song, Your Song which isn't really oversung unlike other versions, Island Girl and The Bitch Is Back in a medley which sounds unusual yet good, Don't Go Breaking My Heart which is a surprise considering Kiki Dee is absent! Also, Elton does her parts which are amusing and to end the show Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting with Elton thanking Clive Franks during the song and being random! Enjoy this excellent show!

Note 1 - Elton's speech before Rocket Man is hilarious! Poor old Freddie Mercury!

Note 2 - Elton is a little bit naughty before Island Girl!

Note 3 - The radio broadcasters keep attempting to predict the encores! Let's just say they're wrong!

Note 4 - This show is just listenable for Elton's speeches which are amazing!
