Having uploaded the first show from Chicago 1988 a few weeks ago, I decided to review the next night to see if Elton's vocal shape improved from the first night! I hope you all enjoyed the first Chicago show! I assume this show is complete (unless Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding was performed) and is in soundboard quality as it is a radio broadcast (presumably for Radio 1 as Elton mentions before the band intro how it is the 21st birthday of the station) however the tape does have some feedback but it isn't too problematic!

Having analyzed this show in a lot more detail compared to the last time, I have come to a conclusion that this show is one of Elton's worst post-surgery shows! Not that the show is bad at all, it is because of how unstable Elton's voice is plus the amount he growls out notes is really concerning plus as I said in the first Chicago description, he gets better as the tour progresses and I will upload other 1988 shows over the next few weeks to prove how his voice improved! But we do have some good vocal performances from this show!

Sixty Years On is mostly decent apart from the last chorus where the angry birds take over, I Need You To Turn To where Elton growls too much for the song's softness, The King Must Die which is slightly better than the previous night but has some moments of madness, Burn Down The Mission with my favorite method of disintegration phrasing, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word with nice keyboards plus Elton doesn't growl too much, Have Mercy On The Criminal where his voice sounds bad plus he rasps far too much, Tiny Dancer which is one of the best performances of the night as he hardly rasps which is a blessing, The Ballad Of Danny Bailey which is a nice performance, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues where Elton is pretty rapsy but it doesn't affect the performance, Philadelphia Freedom where Elton loses control halfway through when hitting an F4 plus the rasp whilst hitting headvoice notes isn't too appealing and also random note choices near the end make it a pretty bad version although nowhere near as bad as them awful 1986 versions!

Continuing with The Bitch Is Back where the first line sounds horrific but he does better as the song goes on, Nikita with nice harmonies with the backing singers plus the instrumentation is nice, Sad Songs (Say So Much) which is similar to the first night, Goodbye Marlon Brando where the first lines of the song sound bad, A Word In Spanish which sounds better than the first night, Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Parts 1 And 2 which sounds awesome at this show although there are better versions, Daniel which sounds mostly fine, I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That with bad note choices, growling however the piano solo is brilliant, Candle In The Wind which has an ending that wouldn't sound out of place on the Tour De Force, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting where Elton growls far too much plus forgets the words but amazingly hits a C5 during the third chorus but the instrumentation is fantastic, Your Song which would be a fantastic performance if Elton didn't growl so much (notice a theme here!) and I'm Still Standing with awesome angry birds plus stumbling phrasing due to his state of mind! Enjoy the show!

Note 1 - Elton does an excellent impression of a Scottish person when introducing his beloved guitarist!
